City Hall
- City Hall is the building of a municipal government.
- There is no representative of the crown at the city level.
- Citizens vote directly for the mayor, their ward’s councillor, and a school board trustee.
- Elected officials do not represent parties.
- Officials represent an electoral district.
- They have a mayor and a city council.
- Ottawa’s City Council has 25 elected members.
- Mayor: represents the entire city.
- 24 Councillors: each represent a ward.
- The Mayor and City Councillors serve for four years.
- Deal with local issues such as water, garbage, fire departments etc.
Party System
- Campaign based on values.
- Has a crown representative.
- Citizens vote for a Member of Parliament to represent them in their own riding.
- Citizens are not voting for a Prime Minister.
- Political parties compete in elections to form a majority government.
- Political parties are at the federal and provincial levels.
- Party leaders are elected by their own party members.
- Canadians choose members of parliament to represent them.
