Dr. Ian Lee

Dr. Ian Lee is an associate professor at Carleton University’ Sprott School of Business, where he teaches strategic management and international business since 1988. Prior to teaching Dr. Lee worked in banking and federal policy, managing major loans and advising on corporate finance. Ian has taught in over a dozen countries and often appears in the media to weigh in on public policy and economic issues.

Nigel

Nigel is the co-owner of Back to Brooklyn Bar and Grill, as well as a past bartender. He manages the bar’s day to day operations from staffing and inventory to booking DJs and planning weekend events. With 5 years of hands-on experience behind the bar, Nigel knows what it takes to keep Ottawa’s nightlife from dying. 

Episode 2: Sip, Skip, and Stay In

Ethan Buckarev

Ethan Buckarev is a student at Carleton University, in his second year of Engineering. He is the events organizer for a local frat (Kappa Sigma), as well as a bartender at Back to Brooklyn and Berlin. Ethan is very immersed in the social scene and has seen nightlife from both sides—from behind the bar and as a partygoer.

Julia Rhymes is a third year student at Carleton, studying Media Production and Design. Julia has experienced a lot of what Ottawa’s nightlife has to offer and gives insight into her social life. Originally from Montreal, Julia has her own take on Ottawa’s nightlife—or lack thereof.

KAR33M is Canada’s soon-to-be breakout Afrobeats artist with music that is rooted in truth-telling. His live performances are engaging and theatrical leaving audiences transformed into dedicated fans. He has performed at multiple cities across Africa and North America, and draws inspiration from the iconic Fela Kuti.

Alex Wood

Alex Wood is a Canadian stand-up comedian, writer, and podcaster known for his high-energy performances that blend sharp jokes with compelling storytelling. Wood’s transparency has expanded into a podcast as well as a compelling memoir.

Episode 4: The Politics of Partying

Stéphanie Plante

 In November 2022, Stephanie Plante was elected Ward councilor of Rideau Vanier. She has lived in that Ward since moving to Ottawa in 2004. While being a ward councilor, Stéphanie is also Vice-Chair of the Built Heritage Committee and sits on the Community Services Committee, the Emergency Preparedness and Protective Services Committee, the Board of the Ottawa Community Housing Corporation, and the Shaw Centre Board of Directors. Stephanie Plante is an advocate for issues like affordable housing, community safety, walkable, safe and green neighborhoods. Outside of the office, Stéphanie enjoys taking her dog Diego on walks at parks, reading and watching shows like Ru Paul’s Drag Race.
