PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Campus Connect is an app that better connects students, faculty/ staff, and visitors to the university grounds by equipping them with everything they need to easily explore and interact with campus offerings. Campus Connect is a project in partnership with Carleton Immersive Media Studio (CIMS) and is powered in part by the Studio’s Digital Campus Model of the University. Leveraging Carleton’s Digital Campus and other university data, Campus Connect provides users with insight-driven notifications and a seamless, integrated interface for connecting and exploring with a wide array of campus offerings including coffee shops, washrooms, water fountains, student services, and recreational facilities. Campus Connect aims to enable connection, empower exploration, and improve the campus experience of its users.

Campus Connect is an app that better connects students, faculty/staff, and visitors with the university grounds by equipping them with everything they need to easily explore and interact with campus offerings.
user engagement survey
A User Engagement Survey was conducted to serve as an important guide for the design and development phases of the project. Through the survey, the group was able to strengthen Campus Connect’s purpose, confirm its relevance, and better shape its features. The survey had 61 participants, primarily students, with a good distribution on the number of years participants have been affiliated with their institution. The results found that 52% of participants find navigating campus somewhat/very challenging. The results also found that 82% of participants would use an app to navigate campus and that 91% of participants would use an app to explore campus, indicating strong popularity for these features.
The app encompasses five key features
- Connect with Campus – an easy way to explore and navigate campus offerings with the touch of a button
- Explore Campus Map – The ability to browse and explore your campus digitally through the app’s easily accessible interface
- Personalized Schedule – access to your campus schedule and ability to add additional campus-related events (e.g., classes, office hours, TA shifts, group project meetings etc.)
- Connect with People on Campus – Easily locate and connect with fellow users on campus
- Insight-Driven Notifications – Personalized notifications designed to improve your Campus Connect experience
